Miser is the One Who Does Not | Reviving Abandoned Sunnan | Dr. Imam Sherif

In this short episode of the Reviving Abandoned Sunnan series, Dr. Imam Sherif Ahmed reflects on a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ that brings comfort to the heart and joy to the believer’s day: saying ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam whenever the Prophet’s name is mentioned.

The Prophet ﷺ made this Sunnah clear and emphasized its importance by linking it directly to the character of the believer. In an authentic narration, he ﷺ said:

“The miser is the one in whose presence my name is mentioned and he does not send blessings upon me.”

Dr. Imam Sherif explains that this hadith redefines miserliness. True stinginess is not merely withholding wealth, but withholding remembrance. Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ is described as a sign of generosity, a reflection of one’s ability to give—not only from wealth, but from love, time, and attention to the best of creation ﷺ.

This Sunnah is not meant to be occasional. Dr. Imam Sherif reminds us that even if the Prophet’s ﷺ name is mentioned many times in a single gathering, the believer responds each time with ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam. This repeated response is an expression of love, generosity, and sincere connection to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

The reminder concludes with a duʿāʾ, asking Allah to make us among the most generous of people—those who are protected from stinginess, whose tongues remain moist with salāh upon the Prophet ﷺ, and who instinctively respond with blessings whenever his name is mentioned.

May Allah allow us to revive this beautiful Sunnah and make it a constant part of our daily lives.
